For March, I wanted something uplifting but thought-provoking, so I decided on The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley. It’s exactly what we need after the heart-wrenching February book club pick. I knew I wanted something lighter, but didn’t want anything cheesy, and The Authenticity Project book club pick gives us plenty to talk about.
I spent far too long researching options for the March book, and ended up with a list I struggled to choose from. After asking a few friends for input to narrow down the list, I finally landed on The Authenticity Project.
In this story about honesty, connection, and the different ways strangers can impact our lives, this is the book we all need right now.
What The Authenticity Project Is About
A lonely, older artist believes people spend too much time pretending their lives are perfect, feigning happiness and success. To oppose that idea, he writes his truths in a notebook and leaves it in a cafe for a stranger to read. He calls this project The Authenticity Project.
The cafe owner finds the notebook and adds her own truths, including the struggles she’s going through. Then, she leaves it for another stranger to find.
The notebook ends up passing through strangers, as each adds their own entries and intertwines their lives. They share the messy, real, and overwhelming parts of life, forming friendships, discovering secrets, and learning more about themselves along the way.
