Mom Wife Wine Book Club April Pick

The Wishing Game Is Our April Book Club Pick (And It’s Exactly What We Need Right Now)

April brings a weather shift that makes everything feel a little more hopeful. Our Mom Wife Wine April book club pick goes right along with that. The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer is the perfect book if you’re coming off a heavy read or just need something a little more uplifting without being cheesy.

What The Wishing Game Is About (No Spoilers)

This story follows Lucy Hart, a teacher’s aide who grew up loving a famous children’s book series and has spent her life putting others first. When she gets invited to a mysterious competition hosted by the author of her favorite childhood book, everything changes.

The catch? Winning could mean finally getting the life she’s always wanted, but she’s not the only one competing. Everyone has something they’re hoping to win, so they’re all ready to do whatever it takes. It’s part whimsical, part emotional, and full of moments that make you stop and think about what really matters.

Why I Picked This for April

This book sounded like one I wanted to sit outside and read. Since this time of year is when that can happen again for the first time in months, it was an easy choice.

If you’ve liked books like The Midnight Library and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, this one falls right into that same category but is a little lighter and more grounded. It’s about second chances, dreams, and the idea that it might not be too late to change your life.

What We’ll Be Talking About

As you read, here are some things to think about and discuss in the comment section:

  • What would you wish for if you were given the chance?
  • Do you think people really get second chances, or do they have to create them?
  • Which character did you connect with the most, and why?
  • Did this story change how you think about your own “what ifs”?
