The Best Thanksgiving Movies

1. Stepmom – My Favorite of the Best Thanksgiving Movies

Stepmom is one of my favorite movies ever, so it tops my Thanksgiving movie list. It’ll have you laughing and crying, and offers so many of the best movie scenes.

2. Free Birds

Free Birds involves two turkeys who go back in time. They want to change history to get turkey off the Thanksgiving menu, and they’ll keep you laughing throughout the entire movie. It’s a good option for little ones, and older kids, teenagers, and parents will love it, too.

3. Grumpy Old Men

This movie is about two older men who constantly feud about everything. A pretty woman movies into their neighborhood, making the rivalry worsen.

4. The Blind Side

Many of us have already seen this, but The Blind Side involves football and thanksgiving, making it a perfect Thanksgiving movie. It’s heartwarming in every way.

5. Pieces of April

I’ve loved this movie since I was a teenager. The main character, April, is hosting her family for Thanksgiving for the first time. However, she finds out that her oven doesn’t work and has to solve the problem quickly. It’s a little dark, so it might not be best if you have little ones joining in, but your teenager will love it.

6. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

This classic is essential to watch with your little ones. Charlie Brown only knows how to cook cold cereal and toast, but Peppermint Patty invites everyone to his house anyway.

7. Turkey Hollow is one of the Best Thanksgiving Movies

Turkey Hollow isn’t a cartoon, so your older kids will enjoy it just as much as the little ones. Two kids visit their aunt in a town lacking technology. They end up tracking a local monster that most residents thought was only a legend.

8. Garfield’s Thanksgiving

Garfield’s Thanksgiving is funny, but would you expect anything else from the movie? Jon invites Garfield’s veterinarian to Thanksgiving dinner after she puts Garfield on a diet.

9. Looney Tunes Thanksgiving

You can introduce your kids to the Looney Tunes with this Thanksgiving movie. It involves two features, including Bugs Bunny’s Thanksgiving Diet and Daffy Duck’s Thanks-for-giving special.

Recap: Best Thanksgiving Movies

Halloween and Christmas movies are popular, but not everyone can identify a Thanksgiving movie. This list should help you choose one of the best Thanksgiving movies to watch with your family this year. What’s your favorite? Leave a comment and let us know!

Easy Thanksgiving Crafts: How to Make a Wine Cork Turkey with Pipe Cleaners

I love holiday crafts, especially when I don’t have to buy anything new for them. I have plenty of wine corks and pipe cleaners, so a wine cork turkey came to mind as an easy thanksgiving craft. My kids enjoyed making them, too. I helped put their pipe cleaners in but they did the rest and loved the result. 🙂

How to Make a Wine Cork Turkey as an Easy Thanksgiving Craft

Required Material:

How to Make It:

  • 1: Twist the pipe cleaners around your pinky finger, a pencil, or another thin object. Then slide the pipe cleaners off without straightening them, making sure to keep the curls.
  • 2: Stick the pointy metal edges of the pipe cleaners into the cork, leaving space for all four colors to go around. The pipe cleaners mimic feathers, so make sure they go around the back.
  • 3: Glue on the googly eyes. If you don’t have googly eyes, you can make eyes out of paper and glues those on instead.
  • 4: Cut a beak from orange paper and a gobbler from red paper. I ran out of red paper so I just found some red in a magazine and cut that into a gobbler.
  • 5: Glue on the beak and gobbler, and you have your turkey. 🙂

Thanksgiving Dinner Must-Haves: Everything You Need for Thanksgiving Dinner

Think back to your favorite Thanksgiving memories. For me, I think of waking up and smelling food cooking and of the excited anticipation of the day ahead, knowing that I would be seeing family and eating a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.

I think of relaxing with my family, laughing, talking, creating more memories to look back on. Mostly though, I think of the years we had a perfect Thanksgiving dinner. Aside from spending time with family and being thankful, the food is literally the most important part of the celebration!

If you’re anything like me, you always feel like you are missing a crucial part of Thanksgiving dinner. You’re worried you will ruin Thanksgiving in some way by forgetting something or not being prepared. No worries, however, as I have come up with a list of Thanksgiving dinner must-haves.

Everything You Need for Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving appetizers:

Main course:

Turkey, obviously. This goes without saying, right? My family also does ham, however.

I found this roaster oven that has a self-basting lid, by the way. Click the link to check it out.

Thanksgiving side dishes:

For a perfect Thanksgiving dinner, you should choose at least 3 side dishes, plus a salad of some sort, and of course, rolls with butter. Some of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes include:

  • Corn
  • Green bean casserole
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Stuffing
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Carrots
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Scalloped potatoes

Oh, and you can’t forget the gravy!

With all of these Thanksgiving side dishes, you can browse around for different recipes so that you can make them to your own liking.

Thanksgiving dessert

  • Pumpkin pie
  • Apple Crisp
  • Apple pie
  • Rhubarb pie
  • Whipped cream
  • Pumpkin cheesecake

Drinks to have on Thanksgiving:

This is up to the personal preference of each family. Think about the people you will be hosting in your home, or about the family that is hosting you in theirs. What do they like to drink when they are celebrating a holiday? What pairs well with the foods and desserts being served? Some options include:

  • Wine
  • Beer (is this normal or just my family?! LOL)
  • Cider
  • Hot cocoa
  • Water
  • Coffee
  • Apple cider sangria (please, please, please Brandy?!?! P.S. – Brandy is my sister, and she makes a killer apple cider sangria.)

Other Things to Consider When Making Thanksgiving Dinner

Does anyone have allergies? Are there other dietary needs such as a vegan option? The most important part of planning food for Thanksgiving or taking a passing dish is to consider the other people who will be attending.

Final Thoughts on Thanksgiving Dinner Must-Haves

Thanksgiving time is my favorite time of year. It’s a time for feeling and showing thankfulness, a time for spending with friends and family, and a time for reflecting on the year that has gone by since the last Thanksgiving gathering. Thanksgiving should be close to perfect, so including as many Thanksgiving dinner must-haves as you can is the way to go.
